To qualify for the award of Bachelor of Midwifery (Post Registration), students must complete 120 credit points consisting of: 120 core credit-points

Course intended learning outcomes

On successful completion you will be able to:
1.
Promote the role of the midwife, the midwifery profession and continuity of midwifery care in influencing better health outcomes for women in a variety of settings including the public health context.
2.
Promote midwifery-led care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary health care team, where appropriate, as a sustainable model which optimises normal biological, psychological, social, and cultural perinatal processes.
3.
Incorporate a strength-based approaches to their practice which supports women’s decision making and strengthens women’s capabilities to care for themselves and their families.
4.
Demonstrate capability and accountability for midwifery practice by taking responsibility of professional development and by practicing within relevant legal parameters and professional standards, codes and guidelines.
5.
Synthesise and apply midwifery knowledge, skills professional guidelines, research evidence and reflective practice to provide safe, high quality, woman-centred midwifery care.
6.
Employ teaching and learning principles in the education of women, families and carers, peers and colleagues, locally and/or internationally.
7.
Demonstrate principles and practices of management and leadership including supervising, leading, managing, teaching and delegating to other.
8.
Critically analyse contemporary maternity care services and identify strategies for changing maternity care services to meet societal needs.

Career outcomes

After graduation, you’ll be prepared to explore areas surrounding quality care, leadership and inter-professional team management and supervision. Take your career further as you develop your midwifery knowledge through research and publication. You’ll also be eligible to apply for postgraduate studies, such as the Master of Midwifery at La Trobe University, allowing you to develop these skills further. 

Note: This degree does not lead to automatic registration as a midwife in Australia.
