Students who began this course in semester 1 2024 will be completing EDU5018 UNDERSTANDING RESEARCH FOR PROFESSIONAL ENQUIRY while students who began the course in semester 2 2024 and onwards will be completing EDU5028 DIVERSE LEARNERS AND PEDAGOGY.

Course intended learning outcomes

On successful completion you will be able to:
1.
Evaluate literacy and numeracy needs for all stakeholders in a teacher education context.
2.
Design, plan and implement a range of developmentally and educationally appropriate programs in Primary contexts.
3.
Demonstrate the capacity to act as a reflective practitioner across a range of educational settings.
4.
Design and implement assessment, feedback and reporting strategies, that complement and support learning processes and are inclusive of diagnostic, formative and summative practices.
5.
Demonstrate well-developed, professional knowledge and skills of teaching, including state curricula, curriculum theory, teaching methodologies and classroom management which are aligned to the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers (APST).
6.
Investigate and evaluate current and predicted future practices in teaching, schooling and education, including appropriate practices to diverse and inclusive needs students, managing changing learning environments, and priority needs in the education system.
7.
Work independently and collaboratively with peers, colleagues and supervisors in the preparation, application and/or evaluation of teaching and learning experiences and resources for effective student learning.
8.
Appraise and analyse emerging developments in the practice and research of education in order to maintain professional skills and knowledge.

Work based learning (placement) requirements

Compulsory placements (Work Based Learning)
During this course, you will participate in one or more supervised Work Based Learning (WBL) placements designed to allow you to practice newly acquired skills, behaviours and knowledge while integrating theory with practice. The placements will immerse you in professional work culture, enabling you to develop and further enhance your skills. WBL provides you with the opportunity to gain valuable industry experience at one or more of our local, interstate or international industry partners or agencies. WBL placements will generally be arranged by the Partnerships Operations team at La Trobe University. The number of hours undertaken can vary considerably, depending on the requirements of the course. Students may incur additional costs and it may be necessary to travel or relocate to complete a specific placement. Please refer to the individual subject entries for more information.

The Master of Teaching (Primary) at the Melbourne (Bundoora), Albury-Wodonga, Bendigo, Mildura and Shepparton campuses is accredited by the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT).

The Master of Teaching (Primary) at the Sydney campus has national accreditation with the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT), complies with NSW-specific ITE accreditation requirements and is considered by the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) to fully prepare graduates for teaching in NSW schools.

Professional registration may require an application to the professional body and may have additional or ongoing requirements beyond the completion of the degree. Please contact the relevant professional body for details.
