To qualify for the award Bachelor of Nursing (Enrolled Nurse), students must complete 360 credit points consisting of: 165 credit pathway (1.5 years):165 advanced standing credit points195 core credit-points 120 credit pathway (2 years):120 advanced standing credit points240 core credit-points  

Additional explanatory information

120 credit pathway: Students commencing in the mid-year intake may undertake only NSG2TRN in Semester two and will then proceed with the other second year subjects in the following Semester

165 credit pathway: This pathway (for AHPRA Registered Enrolled Nurses with an Advanced Diploma in Nursing or a Diploma of Nursing (that included at least three electives at AQF 6 Level) is designed for a  mid-year intake. Students will undertake NSG2TRN to build their theoretical knowledge and study skills and facilitate their transition from the role of Enrolled Nurse to Registered Nurse alongside the subjects of Semester two of year 2. 

Part time study options are available on consultation with the course coordinator or course advisors.

Course features

Work based learning (placement) requirements

Compulsory placements (Work Based Learning)
During this course, you will participate in one or more supervised Work Based Learning (WBL) placements designed to allow you to practice newly acquired skills, behaviours and knowledge while integrating theory with practice. The placements will immerse you in professional work culture, enabling you to develop and further enhance your skills. WBL provides you with the opportunity to gain valuable industry experience at one or more of our local, interstate or international industry partners or agencies. WBL placements will generally be arranged by the College based Placements Operation Team or Experiential Learning Team at La Trobe University. The number of hours undertaken can vary considerably, depending on the requirements of the course. Students may incur additional costs and it may be necessary to travel or relocate to complete a specific placement. Please refer to the individual subject entries for more information.

Professional recognition

The Bachelor of Nursing is accredited by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC). Graduates of the Bachelor of Nursing may be eligible to apply for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) as a nurse. Professional registration may be subject to additional or ongoing requirements beyond completion of the degree. Please contact the relevant professional body for details.
