To qualify for the award of Master of Midwifery Practice, students must complete 180 credit points consisting of: 30 core credit points  30 elective credit points  60 core choice pathway credit points 60 core choice specialisation credit points

Synthesise advanced midwifery knowledge, skills, and scholarship to make evidence-based decisions in complex midwifery scenarios and professional midwifery contexts

Critically reflect on and apply knowledge and skills in research principles and methods to plan and execute research-based projects or evidence-based scholarship

Career outcomes

After graduation you could work across a wide range of sectors including health, education, government, and research. Possible roles include:

  • Clinical midwife specialist
    • Provide advanced patient care and consultation services, optimise patient care by supervising midwifery staff and develop midwifery practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Clinical educator
    • Provide clinical training at a ward/unit level by formulating and delivering in-service educational programs, assessment and demonstration of clinical procedures.
  • Clinical unit manager
    • Supervise and manage a midwifery team, and work closely and form partnerships with interdisciplinary medical teams, including doctors, specialists and therapists.

Professional recognition

The Advanced Clinical specialisation in combination with the Medication Endorsement pathway in the Master of Midwifery Practice is accredited by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC). Professional registration may require an application to the professional body and may have additional or ongoing requirements beyond the completion of the degree.
