To qualify for the award of Diploma of Engineering Fundamentals, students must complete 120 credit points consisting of:

Course intended learning outcomes

On successful completion you will be able to:
1.
Apply fundamental professional principles and technical knowledge, including mathematical and physics concepts, to initiate engineering solutions.
2.
Organize appropriate resources to review, assess and identify opportunities to implement engineering designs and processes.
3.
Collaborate effectively as a team member to achieve team goals.
4.
Communicate technical information orally, in writing or by drawings to technical and non-technical audiences clearly and concisely.

Career outcomes

Graduates of the Diploma of Engineering Technology may find employment in a range of engineering fields including civil, electrical, electronics, environmental, structural, construction, mechanical, manufacturing, infrastructure development or project management.

Roles may include:

  • Junior CAD designer or cadet drafter
    • Use CAD (computer-aided design) software to help generate designs and build models using 2D or 3D imagery. Use modelling and simulation tools to develop systems and components for complex engineering projects.
  • Mechanical technician
    • Collect information, conduct tests and analyse data relating to mechanical systems. Support the assembly and installation of mechanical systems used by mechanical engineers or technologists.
  • Service technician
    • Manage equipment databases and requirements to ensure internal quality control and ISO standards. Manage and distribute CAD standards to design consultants and assist with design issues.
  • Civil technician
    • Support engineers through the planning, design and management of the construction and maintenance of buildings, roads and other infrastructure projects. Provide other civil engineering administrative assistance including the estimation of costs, timeline planning and preparation of specifications for project materials.
