La Trobe University's Master of Public Health and Master of Health Administration will prepare you for future health services management roles that deal with the needs of the ageing population, integration of healthcare delivery systems, technological innovations and an increasingly complex regulatory environment. Additional explanatory information

Upon completion of 60 credit points of subjects students have the option to exit with a Graduate Certificate in Public Health (HCPHE) or the Graduate Certificate in Health Services Management (HCHSM).
Upon completion of 120 credit points of subjects, students have the option to exit with a Graduate Diploma in Public Health (HGPHE) or the Graduate Diploma in Health Services Management (HGHSMG).
Please refer to the course structures for each exit award to identify the subjects that are required to be completed in order to qualify for that award.

Course intended learning outcomes

On successful completion you will be able to:
1.
Apply critical reflective practice to solve complex local and global public health problems responsive to the needs of different contexts and stakeholder groups.
2.
Conceive, create, lead, and evaluate achievable public health initiatives through synthesising theoretical principles of public health practice and apply project management tools and techniques underpinned by contemporary theoretical models
3.
Draw on expert judgement to drive public health advocacy and demonstrate competence and autonomy as an advocate for public health initiatives.
4.
Effectively communicate ideas and information to different audiences in diverse setting to promote public health goals.
5.
Synthesise and assemble relevant data to analyse the performance of the health care system or organisation to enhance patient care and population health outcome to maximise organisational potential.
6.
Investigate funding and financing arrangements and government policy to create, revise, implement and evaluate evidence-based strategies that enhance population health and maximise organisational potential and inform resource allocation decisions.
7.
Apply research principles and methods to critically appraise the health management body of knowledge and apply ethical evidence-based leadership skills across diverse organisational environments.

Career outcomes

Graduates are qualified to work in community health services, hospitals, research bodies, and public health and health promotion agencies. You are also likely to find work for government and non-government organisations such as Red Cross, World Vision and other not.for.profit organisations.

Professional recognition

The Master of Health Administration is accredited by the Australasian College of Health Service Management (ACHSM). Membership may require an application to the professional body and may have additional or ongoing requirements beyond the completion of the degree. Please contact the relevant professional body for details. Depending on subject choice, the Master of Health Administration is recognised by the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators (RACMA) as providing the theoretical underpinning to the experiential components of the Fellowship Training Program in medical administration.
