Subject intended learning outcomes

On successful completion you will be able to:
1.
Demonstrate competencies for using micro-skills related to counselling, such as active listening, using questions appropriately, summarising, nonverbal behaviour, and managing process.
2.
Demonstrate an ability to develop a good working relationship and rapport with individuals in a 'client' role.
3.
Demonstrate the competencies for conducting the structure and content of an initial interview with a 'client'.
4.
Describe overall formulations of client problems leading to interventions.
5.
Demonstrate counselling skills involving assisting clients to plan and implement home activities between sessions.
6.
Understand ethical and professional issues of relevance to psychologists and demonstrate an ability to think reflectively about them.
7.
Demonstrate an ability to evaluate ethical cases systematically considering ethical principles, and cultural and legal contexts, and to access appropriate sources of expert advice.
