Aural rehabilitation is an integral component of clinical audiology. Building on the foundation knowledge and skills gained in AUD5RHD (Rehabilitation I - Hearing Devices), in this subject you will further develop your understanding of the impact of hearing impairment on individuals, their communication partners and the wider community. Through a combination of workshops and self-directed learning modules, you will develop skills in patient-centred audiological rehabilitation and counselling techniques.

On successful completion you will be able to:

Demonstrate mastery of the theory of aural rehabilitation and the psychosocial impacts of hearing loss on the individual, family unit and community as a whole.

Critically reflect on clinical practice as an audiology practitioner.

Critically design, evaluate and review individually-tailored client needs, rehabilitation goals, communication strategies, and clinical outcomes.

Critically review and adapt your communication style, counselling techniques and rehabilitation plans for different client population groups.

Learning activities

You will engage in a range of activities including directed readings, workshops and assignments (critical reflection and aural rehabilitation plan) designed to achieve and assess your performance in alignment with the subject’s intended learning outcomes. You will receive timely feedback (formal and informal) about your performance on these activities to support your learning.
