Overview

The first focus of this subject is the development of higher level health classification skills to a level of competency that qualifies students as entry-level clinical coders. Students gain proficiency in the application of relevant software and auditing tools. The second focus is on the health classification-financial relationship, including co-payments, the applications of Activity Based Funding and other case mix-based measures such as Weighted Inlier Equivalent Separations and related clinical coding-funding dependencies. In this subject only a Pass (P) or Fail (N) is awarded. A grade of 75% or greater is required to achieve a Pass grade in line with industry standards and expectations.

Apply Australian Coding Standards and Conventions accurately in health classification practice at an intermediate level.

Analyse emerging health classification data or patient treatment data to inform advice on clinical documentation.

Apply the standards and conventions of health classification to a level of expertise and within a time frame that aligns with industry expectations.
