Overview

This subject encourages you to explore and refine your artistic practice at an advanced level, drawing together the learning from Studio Practice subjects A-E. It supports you to integrate related conceptual interests that frame your work and develop complex projects and an advanced folio. You will undertake sound transdisciplinary studio inquiry across media that you choose. You will engage with conceptual approaches and develop a commensurate level of engagement with the language of relevant contemporary art practice and critical theory. The subject emphasises independent problem solving and self-directed inquiry and facilitates the the contextualisation of your artistic practice within the broader framework of contemporary art. This subject emphases a studio led inquiry that is complemented by a range of seminars, class discussions, visiting artists, gallery visits and class critiques.

On successful completion you will be able to:

Produce and realise works and forms of expression at an advanced level that draw on theoretical and practical knowledge from previous studio-based subjects

Develop and demonstrate a sophisticated understanding of visual language and expression within specific/convergent visual arts media

Critically evaluate concepts and processes through creative, reflective and critical thinking at an advanced level

Interpret, critique and communicate with sophistication about artworks, concepts, practices and materials within art disciplines

Learning activities

Produce a coherent body of work in a chosen area of inquiry. Identify and develop skills within contemporary art practice related to the student's studio exploration. Build an understanding of contemporary art practice and contextualise and evaluate your own practice within this framework. Use oral skills to develop and present an understanding of the contemporary art context in which your practice is situated and to engage in group critiques of artworks.
