Subject intended learning outcomes

On successful completion you will be able to:

Ability to explore Chinese cultural component through library, literature and online based resource in English
2.
Ability to formulate a brief opinion on familiar, everyday matters and to generally engage in the discussion on China related topics.
3.
Ability to manage open-ended short communication with functional approximations of accurate language and intonation for the context
4.
Ability to perform a basic analysis and synthesis, and to develop and evaluate simple arguments. Ability to use a bilingual paper based and online based dictionaries correctly.
5.
Ability to work as part of a team in class role play activities and presentation.
6.
Ability to write functional sentences using appropriate structure with correct grammar in Chinese

Learning activities

Library literature review on Chinese culture and society pre-departure, discussion with Chinese students during the Australia-China Students Forum, daily encounters in Chinese with local university students and residents; seminars on contemporary Chinese culture and society, writing a learning portfolio, delivering a group presentation and Chinese writing practice
