Australia faces a number of complex and urgent environmental challenges. This subject provides you with an understanding of environmental regulatory frameworks at the international, national and state-level, as well a socio-legal analysis of how they are operating in practice. The first half of the subject gives you an overview of the principles and structure of Australian environmental law, including the types of regulatory tools used; the distribution of environmental governance between the Commonwealth, state and local governments; key environmental law principles; the process of environmental assessment and approval; and environmental litigation. The second half of the subject addresses a number of specific environmental law challenges including pollution, climate change, biodiversity protection and natural resource management.
Capstones provide students with a way of integrating and applying knowledge and skills gained throughout their course.
