This subject is one of three final year professional practicum subjects. Dependent on the allocated placement, students will focus on different specialized areas of practice. Supervised clinical practice occurs for 25 days over 5 weeks across one or multiple placement sites. Students also attend 8 problem-based learning seminars and undertake independent learning activities. Clinical practicums in this subject are organised outside of normal teaching weeks and include opportunity to travel to non-metropolitan areas. In this subject, students will begin refining their clinical and professional skills with the aim of achieving entry level competencies as required for professional recognition as an orthoptist. Attendance at professional placements will also contribute to meeting minimum requirements for workplace experience and professional accreditation.
Capstones provide students with a way of integrating and applying knowledge and skills gained throughout their course.
