Subject intended learning outcomes

On successful completion you will be able to:
1.
Understand cultural differences in Chinese contexts such as family relations and education etc.
2.
Enhance oral and aural skills by reading new texts and viewing Chinese feature films. With the expanded vocabulary range, students can talk about topics including university life, travel, sport, family relations and education.
3.
Improve and develop communicative competence in topics of everyday interest in Chinese and Australian society, consolidate skills in simple correspondence and expository writing.
4.
Perform a basic analysis, and develop a simple argument in Chinese.
5.
Write a short and fluent paragraph and use appropriate structures with correct grammar in Chinese

Learning activities

Listening, reading new textbook materials, cultural creation and oral activities including dialogue, pair work and conversation with given topics, role play, discussion and debate. Comparison in Chinese-English translation, sentence making with new vocabulary and sentence patterns, writing practice in different forms including dialogue, comment, letters and essay.
