Overview

This subject introduces students to knowledges that educators need to sustain life-long learning and impactful pedagogies in their teaching. Through this subject, students will develop core knowledge and skills required to learn through digital platforms. A foundational understanding of the worldviews that shape education in Australia, considering how this will continue to evolve through the framework of cultural, economic, social and environmental sustainability will be explored. Digital literacy is embedded throughout, with students developing understanding of teaching and learning in digital spaces alongside ethical and legal concerns. Multimodal and visual literacies will be introduced as digital platforms which support the acquisition of new knowledge. Finally, students will begin to establish an evidence-based repertoire of practices for creating learning.

On successful completion you will be able to:

Demonstrate knowledge of a range of digital skills and tools and how these can be used in accessing, processing and communicating information.

Appraise contemporary research and demonstrate a foundational understanding of the relevant issues and the strategies available to support the safe, responsible and ethical use of ICT in learning.

Collaboratively illustrate ethical concerns in digital spaces using multimodal and visual literacies.

Build a professional digital presence applicable to providing evidence of learning.

Learning activities

You will engage in a range of activities including lectures, tutorials, online learning and problem based learning designed to achieve and assess your performance in alignment with the subject’s intended learning outcomes. You will receive timely feedback (formal and informal) about your performance on these activities to support your learning.
