Overview

This is a transition pathway to the Bachelor of Nursing, enabling students an accelerated degree, specifically for students who have an undergraduate degree other than Nursing or have entered through a health sciences diploma pathway.   In this subject, students will explore health standards that influence healthcare including National Safety and … For more content click the Read more button below.   Students will explore the evolution of nursing and nursing theory across the ages and its representation in current society. They will also be introduced to occupational health and safety as it relates to healthcare delivery, including care of all patients and abilities. An introduction to ethics and law as it relates to nursing practice will also be examined.   This subject will introduce students to the application of clinical reasoning and decision making required by registered nurses in the delivering person-centred, evidence-based care for people experiencing hospitalisation with a focus on a variety of systems and diseases, across the lifespan. They will learn to work in inter- and intra-professional teams to develop their understanding of the foundation concepts that underpin effective nursing practice in interprofessional teams, including the student nurse’s scope of practice.   Students will be introduced to pharmacotherapies and safe and quality use in medicines. Responsibilities, practical skills, and scope of practice of the student and registered nurse in medication administration will be examined. Through application of aseptic and infection control principles students will examine different ways to control healthcare associated infection.   The three-week clinical placement will allow students to integrate theoretical principles to the nursing practice of patients that is underpinned by nursing theory.
