Overview

PSTs will be introduced to relevant curriculum and pedagogical theories, developing, and justifying a pedagogical approach towards Arts education. They will engage in critique of a selected senior secondary Arts curriculum document within the context of high stakes examinations and employ the Understanding by Design (UbD) planning model to design an appropriate senior secondary assessment task and rubric and to ‘backwards design’ a learning and teaching sequence appropriate to prepare senior secondary learners for the task

Subject intended learning outcomes

On successful completion you will be able to:
1.
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the concepts, substance and structure of the content of relevant senior secondary Arts curriculum.
2.
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of various pedagogical approaches relevant to teaching senior secondary Arts curriculum.
3.
Demonstrate ability to organise content into an effective learning and teaching sequence using knowledge of relevant senior secondary Arts curriculum, SOLO taxonomy and Bloom’s Revised Taxonomy.
4.
Demonstrate ability to ‘backwards design’ an appropriate learning and teaching sequence using the Understanding by Design (UbD) planning model, knowledge of student learning, content and effective teaching strategies (including literacy and numeracy teaching strategies appropriate to Arts).
5.
Demonstrate ability to organise content into an effective learning and teaching sequence for summative assessment using knowledge of relevant senior secondary Arts curriculum and UbD planning model, including design and justification of an assessment task and rubric.
6.
Demonstrate ability to organise content into a sequence enabling various forms of diagnostic and formative assessments for the purposes of evaluation, reflection and goal setting, using knowledge of relevant senior secondary Arts curriculum.
