Overview

In this subject, students will build on the advanced knowledge and skills developed within the field of Perioperative Nursing Practice. In undertaking studies in PNSA 1 the student embarks on an advanced practice role toward practicing as a Perioperative Nurse Surgeons Assistant (PNSA). The student PNSA follows the Advanced Clinical Practice stream in the specialist area of Perioperative Nurse Surgical Assistant (PNSA). Students develop their cognitive and technical skills to demonstrate an advanced understanding of the underlying principles and theoretical concepts in the role of surgical assistance. An in-depth understanding of the history of the PNSA role and integration of advanced nursing principle in delivery of care in the three phases of care; Preoperative, Intraoperative and Postoperative Care.
