Subject intended learning outcomes

On successful completion you will be able to:

Demonstrate rudimentary skills and knowledge in the operation of cameras, editing software, sound recording equipment and lighting in a location and studio environment.
2.
Develop and demonstrate an appreciation of the social production of newsgathering, production and distribution through the process of a news production simulation.
3.
Demonstrate an understanding of the various genres, formats and technical styles and processes associated with field to studio workflows.
4.
Evaluate the ethical, legal, commercial and industrial context of news production and distribution and reception
5.
Demonstrate an understanding of working in a team by undertaking a specific craft role and successfully participating in, and completing a studio group Assessment

Learning activities

Students develop video stories in small teams and as a large class group they compile these into a class produced news like program. In developing stories students practice tasks associated with narrative and cultural analysis and apply these ideas to a contemporary news item. Students engage in a process of critical self-reflection on their own work and with others' commentary on that and other student's work.
