In this subject you will extend your knowledge of the components that provide frameworks for accountable and responsible nursing practice. Through online activities students will explore competency standards, decision making frameworks, direction and delegation guidelines and the Australian safety and quality framework in relation to professional conduct. In addition, students will be introduced to the role of contemporary theories of leadership and management, the concept of professional boundaries, health policy, organisational structures and culture. Your capacity to engage in your professional role across all practice settings will be enhanced by completion of this subject. To achieve the learning outcomes of this subject you will be expected to complete a range of written assessments within a 12-week period.
Capstones provide students with a way of integrating and applying knowledge and skills gained throughout their course.

Subject intended learning outcomes
On successful completion you will be able to:

Explain the impact of corporate and clinical governance models in Australia and international health services in relation to person-centred care.

Appraise contemporary health policy issues and current legislation as they relate to safety and quality in nursing.

Critique how organisational structure, organisational culture and contextual variables influence the nursing environment and the coordinated approach to person centred care.
4.
Critique contemporary nursing leadership theories, core competencies and personal capabilities and their importance to individuals, teams and the nursing profession.
5.
Develop and apply communication skills that directly relate to health information systems.
6.
Apply awareness of the transition from student to registered health care practitioner through critical self-reflection.
Learning activities
Students will participate in a variety of sumative and formative activities including online lectures, discussion with peers in online forums, reflective exercises, and analysis of existing frameworks and guidelines.

This subject is designed to be taken in the final semester of the BN (alongside NSG3NCR). Students must seek approval for an altered course plan from the Course coordinator to take this subject out of sequence.
