Honours is a fourth year of undergraduate study offered to students who demonstrate academic success and fulfilled the requirements of a Bachelors degree, with a major in a relevant discipline. Honours in Science Education consists of a one year (full-time) or two years (part-time) individual research project, supervised by a SABE academic whose research is in the discipline of science education. Students can commence either in February or July. Students should consult with potential supervisors during their final undergraduate year and will only be accepted into the subject with the written support from a willing supervisor. The School Honours coordinator will provide more information on the application process including a comprehensive list of available research projects. SCI401B is the second or third subject of a 90CP research component for Honours in SABE. Students must take SCI401A first.

Learning activities

Students who undertake Honours will undertake supervised research under the tutelage of an academic in the School of Agriculture, Biomedicine and Environment (SABE). The nature of this research depends on the interests of the supervisor: students may find themselves working with an academic on the Bundoora or Albury-Wodonga campuses or at affiliated external institutions (e.g., AgriBio, ONJCRI, Baker), or conduct field research. Regardless of the nature of the research, during Honours all students will conduct experiments and collect original data, analyse results, and present their findings in written and oral forms.
