This subject is designed to allow high-level students (Chinese and non-Chinese speakers) to further extend their professional Chinese abilities and orient them in China-related studies. Topics comprise digital economy and social class changes, Chinese contemporary literature, social development and division, changes of global views, and modern civil war history. It particularly focuses on the training of skills in social sciences research by using Chinese primary sources. It also covers translation in primary text from Chinese into English and from English into Chinese. The subject features an online and multimedia based collaborative teaching and learning experience.
Capstones provide students with a way of integrating and applying knowledge and skills gained throughout their course.

Subject intended learning outcomes
On successful completion you will be able to:

Formulate a critical argument on the social, cultural and political issues in contemporary China.
2.
Review relevant disciplinary literature and explain the social, cultural and political issues in contemporary Chinese society.
3.
Use Chinese language to make a preliminary social science inquiry in the topics regarding contemporary Chinese social, cultural and political issues.
4.
Work with a partner or as part of a team to communicate in oral and written formats
5.
Develop lines of argument, and orientation in Chinese-English two way translation practice
Learning activities
In-class activities include literature reviews, vocabulary and grammar exercises, presentations, orientation in research essay writing, as well as Chinese to English and English to Chinese translation exercises.
