Subject intended learning outcomes

On successful completion you will be able to:

Identify and analyse the characteristics of early (Romantic), Victorian, Modern and Postmodern gothic texts.
2.
Recognise and understand the significance of scholarly articles to the field of gothic literature.
3.
Understand concepts that are central to the gothic (including sensibility; the uncanny; terror and horror; masculine and feminine gothic).
4.
Write a clearly structured; well-researched; and well-presented essay at a third year level

Learning activities

Watching gothic fims and television shows, discussing texts and their contexts in class, engaging with secondary material on the gothic and its many children.
