You will study and analyse content presented in three main modules - Past, Present and Futures - and relate these to your Master or Doctoral research proposal through individual and class activities and assessment tasks. You will contextualise your research topic historically and in relation to contemporary and emerging trends and issues and future scenarios. You will advance your understanding of population health and wellbeing paradigms, eras, grand challenges, key events, concepts, values, frameworks, systems, practices and tools. You will critically explore the roles of government and other institutions, healthcare and other sectors, various disciplines and professions and communities and citizens in public health analysis, advocacy and action. This subject is designed to complement research training subjects by providing continuous opportunities for you to further develop aspects of your research proposal, including its significance, key questions, methodology and ethical dimensions. You will explore ways to optimise the relevance of your research project and its potential impact on people, environments and systems. To support your development as leaders in your profession, sector, organisation and/or field of practice, you will gain basic skills in futures literacy and professionalise your oral, written and audio-visual presentation skills in order to effectively communicate research to interdisciplinary audiences.
