Overview

This subject focuses on how people understand communication through language. In particular, it explores how words, sentences, utterances and texts are used make meaning or do something in a certain context. A range of theoretical approaches and analytical tools used in the study of semantics and pragmatics will be introduced and applied.

This is a level 2 subject. This subject includes live sessions with the expectation of student attendance and participation.

Develop an ability to present and analyse data in written form and increased sophistication in articulating and defending linguistic analyses

Collect and present natural linguistic data and use the tools learned in this subject to analyse and explain that data
